According to historians, Philadelphia police began calling Black Friday the day before the Army-Navy football match because of the long hours required and the need to deal with traffic and other difficulties.

On November 30, 1974, the Army-Navy football match took place at John F. Kennedy Stadium in Philadelphia. Black Friday was create in Philadelphia to celebrate the day between Thanksgiving Day and the annual Army-Navy football game at John F. Kennedy Stadium in Philadelphia on November 30, 1974.

Black Friday has been synonymous with mayhem in stores for many years. Its origin story is roote in turbulence.

In the 1960s, Philadelphia was home to Black Friday. On Saturday between Thanksgiving and the Army-Navy football match, tourists would flock to the city. According to historians, the Philadelphia police called the day Black Friday after they had to deal with bad traffic, bad weather, and other crowd-related problems.

History

Local retailers wanted to attract shoppers on that day. They didn’t like the idea of “black” being use in front of a day, which has historically been use to indicate unpleasant events. Black Tuesday was the 1929 stock market crash. Another was Black Monday in 1987 when the market lost more percentageally than any other day in 1929.

Retailers attempted to rebrand the holiday as “Big Friday”, but failed. Later, businesses claimed the name Black Friday deals 2022. They said that it was the day when the books in stores went from red to black.

After a string of injuries and even death, retailers have attempted to spread the shopping frenzy over multiple days. This was after shoppers rushed into stores in an uncontrollable rush to grab the best deals. Because the holiday shopping season is so crucial to retailers’ bottom line, Cyber Monday is being promote as a day for shopping online, and Small Business Saturday encourages shoppers to shop locally.

Because of ongoing supply chain disruptions that arose from the Covid-19 pandemic, this year’s season began long before Thanksgiving. Due to delays in manufacturing and shipping, toys and electronics might not arrive in time for holidays. Many Americans are starting their holiday shopping before Thanksgiving. To speed up the flow of goods, the supply chain task force at The White House has been working closely with private companies.
