Four Ways You Can Reduce Reuse and Recycle

Date:

Humans create tons of waste every year which is damaging our environment in an irreversible manner. It is a continuous process of degradation and there is little to nothing being done to stop it. The effects of this are evident through the medium of climate change.

Every year the conditions on Earth are getting harsher and harsher for life due to humans being irresponsible with their waste. There needs to be a collective effort to curtail this damaging cycle or else it will be too late. Discussed below are some of the things we can all practice to help make a difference.

1. Repurpose Scrap metal

Humans have been building things from metal for a while now. It can be storage containers or buildings; the use of metal can be seen everywhere. This metal after serving its purpose mostly ends up in landfills. Cars also make up a big share of this waste.

However, we can take steps to make the situation better. By dealing with this scrap metal responsibly we can make sure that we repurpose or reuse it. Metal is easy to convert, it can be melted down and reshaped into new things, this also makes it possible to remove impurities from the metal before reusing it.

2. Dispose of Plastic Sensibly

Plastic waste is something that has affected our environment and the natural habitats of many creatures the most. Plastic does not break down easily and even when it does it just breaks down into smaller particles which pose their own risks.

In addition to being durable plastic is also lightweight which enables plastic waste to spread which is why it can be found in the middle of an ocean. It is then ingested by marine life which can end their life. This is why it is crucial to deal with plastic waste and reuse it to keep plastic-related pollution at a minimum.

3. Use up Your Wood scraps

Wood is an organic element and tends to degrade rather quickly in the elements. However, by letting it go to waste we create a need for more trees to be cut down which can lead to adverse climate conditions on our planet.

This is why we should make a conscious effort towards preserving and reusing wood scraps in order to minimize trees being cut down. Even if the scraps you have are not useful to build something you can always use them in other ways such as by turning them into mulch or firewood.

4. Adopt a Minimalist Approach

Humans in the past couple of centuries have adopted an approach of excess. Excess is held synonymous with luxury which has led to a problematic outcome for our environment. An excess-oriented approach leads to a lot of waste and emissions which should not have been there in the first place.

By changing our ways and adopting a minimalist approach we can make a difference by reducing our emissions and thereby reducing our impact on the environment. This can be held especially true when it comes to our harvest of natural resources.
