Things Women Should Know about Menopause

Date:

Menopause can be described as a permanent ending of menstruation. It typically happens to women in their late 40s/early 50s.

Menopause leads to a decrease in estrogen and progesterone hormones. This results in symptoms like hot flashes, weight gain, or dryness in the vaginal area. Menopause is not an illness but rather a phase in the woman’s life.

Things Every Woman Needs To Know About Menopause

When is Menopause Most Common?

The average age when menopause starts is 46. Most women lose their period between the ages of 55 and 45. However, the ovary function could begin to decline years before it occurs. Some women may have their periods through their 50s. Although the age at which menopause occurs is thought to be genetic, factors like smoking and intensive chemotherapy can cause ovarian loss, leading to menopause earlier.

What’s the Difference between Menopause and Perimenopause?

Perimenopause can be described as the period just before menopause. It is a time when hormone production from the eggs begins to decline. Perimenopause symptoms include hot flashes (irregular periods) and hot flashes (hot flashes). If you don’t have a menstrual period for 12 consecutive weeks, you’ve entered menopause.

What Causes Low Estrogen Levels In Women?

Hot flashes represent the most common symptom. They are experienced in approximately 75% of women who go through menopause. Other symptoms are fatigue, trouble concentrating, depression, or painful sex due to too little vaginal lubrication. Some women may experience mood swings and muscle and joint pains (arthralgia).

What is a Hot Flash?

A hot flash is characterized by a rapid rise in the body’s temperature. Hot flashes may cause redness or blotchiness to the upper body and skin. This sudden temperature rise may cause excessive sweating, heart palpitations, and dizziness. After a hot flash, you might feel cold. Hot flashes come in various intensities and can last between 30 seconds and 10 minutes.

Hot flashes occur in different ways. Some people experience them daily, while others have hot flashes every year.

Can Hot Flashes Still Be Prevented

The frequency of hot flashes is not something that can be prevented. However, it can be minimized by avoiding triggers. Hot flashes may be more common when there are triggers such as alcohol, nicotine or caffeine, stress, obesity and spicy food.

You should talk to your doctor if your hot flashes are becoming unbearable. Hormone therapy, birth control, and prescription medication may reduce the frequency and intensity of hot flashes. For intense hot flashes, practice deep breathing techniques.

How does Menopause Impact Bone Health?

The decrease in estrogen production results in calcium loss in the bones. This leads to osteoporosis. Women see an acceleration of bone loss within the first few years following their last menstrual period. This makes them more likely to suffer from hip, spine, and other bone fractures.

For bone health, eat calcium-rich foods (dairy or leafy greens), and take vitamin supplements. You should avoid smoking and drinking alcohol. Weight training and other exercises can also help improve bone health.

Menopause, Heart Disease and

To keep the heart healthy, the body may lose its ability to retain flexible arteries due to decreased estrogen levels. This can lead you to feel dizzy and have cardiac palpitations. You can lower your risk of developing heart conditions by eating a healthy diet, exercising regularly, and controlling your weight.
